Stream of Consciousness Sunday: Wedding Prep

Standard

Started making my bouquets for the wedding last night.  Cutting up my fake hydrangeas and lavendar….deciding that the website where I found my dress had an awesome idea of putting feathers in their bouquets.  Looking at feathers online with one of my best friends….do we choose ostrich, peacock, guinea?

And why is it that events like this sneak up on you? We have had a date picked out for almost 2 years! 2 years and I havem’t done crap! lol  I rushed to get save the date cards out and i have had ages to do it.

Here is the dress inspriation, but I’m not $1200 happy with it so we are making it, me and my friends, because we are crazy or gluttons for punishment or something….

I;m not that skinny so there will be less under the chest space, I think that would not be pretty at all :)

However, I love the airy look and just happened to stumble upon the Peppermint Pretty website duiring a dress search…..sigh….love it….

Anywho…on to appetizers and music selection and wedding party dresses and oh shit, what the hell will the groom wear? grumble, grumble, grrrr……

Welcome to the Sick House

Standard

OH my! Two weeks of sick kids plus no sleep eventually equal a very sick Mommy and Daddy. It also means that my computer does not get turned on and blogs do not get written. I feel like I have been missing out because I have had no interest in reading all the usual blogs I haunt, I’d rather curl up and sleep.  That’s not happening either though.  The one thing you can count on from a congested one year old is that no stretch of sleep will last longer than two hours at a time.

So after a six p.m. to 8:30p.m. nap tonight because I just couldn’t hang on anymore, I am now wide awake.  Daddy stayed up with the kids so he is happily nestled into our bed with the dogs.  We are hoping for night two of the baby sleeping for at least eight hours, since it’s not a work or school night it may actually happen (my other kids and fiancee are loud people when getting ready).

This lack of good sleep is resulting in a bit of rambling obviously.  I have been thinking a lot about what to talk about on here.  I share fun tidbits on Facebook all the time and have to learn to work those into my blogging.  Trust me some of those stories are great, for instance, the other night Gillian, Brae and I went grocery shopping.  Nothing big I just needed a few odds and ends, including more medicine, to get us through another few days stuck in the sick house.  I decided to treat myself to a Caramel Frappuccino, which does not fall in the Wedding Diet plan, but after the week and a half I had had it sounded positively amazing. Gillian suddenly blurted out that she wanted coffee from Starbucks too.  I was shocked, this is my picky kid who never wants to try anything new unless we bribe her.  So the cashier asks what she would like and my 8 year old squints at the menu and says she wants a Stinky Vanilla Latte.  I could not control it, the laughter just busted out and the cashier was right on with me.  SO we ended up with my Venti Caramel Frap and a Tall ‘Stinky’ Skinny Vanilla Latte. Ahhh, kids.

Anyway, I feel my eyelids growing heavy and if I finally am going to get some sleep I better get to it.  Missed you guys!

Making It All Work

Standard

How do I manage? Ha! Not too well sometimes unfortunately.  I think I have said this before but for some reason I feel like I should do twice as much since at stay at home with my son. I’m not sure why but I try to raise him, volunteer at school for my girls, lead my oldest daughter’s Girl Scout troop, cook from scratch, maintain my home, have a social life, get me time, host a book club, let my girls do several extracurricular activities and run a home business…all at the same time. Oh and I’m planning a wedding and dieting/exercising to look amazing in my dress…forgot that!
This usually results in me going to bed too late, waking up too early and just looking like a mess in general.  I’m a happy mess though, I’m sure that counts for something.
I manage the best I can by scheduling everything I can on my calendar.  I have a billion alarms on my phone alerting me of everything from school plays to phone calls to make, what is due today in my cleaning schedule to doctor appointments and even reminders to write my blog posts. I also have a massive calendar I make with markers on my wall right at the entrance to the hallway.  It has two and a half months worth of info on it and includes the schedule for every person in the house. It goes even further than my phone because I have the girl’s daily school activities listed (like my preschooler’s show and tell days and my second grader’s special class – art, music or p.e.), where each kid is spending the night (we have A LOT of very involved grandparents) and what nights my fiancee plays poker or has a training session (he supplements our income with poker).
Sounds crazy, huh? It works though, so well that many of my friends and family members know that one text or phone call to me will advise them of the social, school or scout events they are attending each week. :)

I would have loved to actually write to one of the other prompts, but with the busy week and Girl Scouts tonight (big preparations for Thinking Day!), I just don’t have the time or energy. : )

A little late Fabulous Food Friday On Wednesday: Baked Sweet Potatoes

Standard

I have had a busy last week and weekend and I missed my second Fabulous Food Friday! Boo! And since I tried two recipes last week that my family loved, I have to get this one in before this Friday. So here it is:

Baked Sweet Potatoes

Ingredients

2 tablespoons olive oil
3 large sweet potatoes
2 pinches dried oregano
2 pinches salt
2 pinches ground black pepper

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Coat the bottom of a glass or non-stick baking dish with olive oil, just enough to coat.
  2. Wash and peel the sweet potatoes. Cut them into medium size pieces. Place the cut sweet potatoes in the baking dish and turn them so that they are coated with the olive oil. Sprinkle moderately with oregano, and salt and pepper (to taste).
  3. Bake in a preheated 350 degrees oven for 60 minutes or until soft.

I also sprinkled a little cinnamon across them before serving.  They were a hit!
