Pray – especially Pray
I have been reading Elizabeth Gilbert’s ‘Eat, Pray, Love’ over the last few months. It has taken a lot of time because the ‘Eat’ portion was slow. It didn’t quite keep me reading. Not that it wasn’t well-written, it was, but it didn’t speak to me.
I got sucked ‘The Help’ and then ‘Starting From Scratch’ and then ‘The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks’. All of which I really should write reviews on because they are amazing.
Now I am in a lull, still discussing Hunger Games’ and starting to read Water For Elephants. I devoured the entire HG series last year and have been chomping at the bit for the movie.
Anyway, I am sick and in pain, so today I begin to read ‘Eat, Pray, Love’ again. I have ventured into the ‘Pray’ section and I have to say it has been very enthralling.
Gilbert’s candid prose about her experience has me stunned. Everything she says has touched something deep inside me. The passage that struck me was:
“Devotion is diligence without assurance. Faith is a way of saying, “Yes, I pre-accept the terms of the universe and I embrace in advance what I am presently incapable of understanding.”"
What a way to say something that affects any person who has any type of religion?
I”m not sure about the Love section yet, I am going to start that tomorrow. The Pray was a bit much for me, her struggles and experiences are overwhelming.
I would say even if you don’t think this book is something you would read, pick it up and read the Pray section, you won’t regret it.
It’s Hard to be Authentic
I find that promoting my businesses and my blog become overwhelming. That’s one of the many reasons my blog has suffered.
One of the top recommendations by the business experts is ‘to be authentic’.
Being authentic takes a lot of work. Responding to people so they know I care even when they don’t spend a dime at my businesses is frustrating.
That is time I could be spending with my kids. Who are the reason I stay home. The reason I so desperately try to run home-based web businesses and freelance.
Also, the examples given of being authentic are usually a crock of crap. I can tell the person is working at being authentic. That’s not authentic.
What’s authentic is I am a busy mom trying to help support my family. I want you to buy my products and use my services because it helps me provide for my children. I DO care about people and my customers.
However, spending 15 hours a day promoting my business and engaging with possible customers doesn’t seem to be authentically getting me towards that goal of being with my kids.
So other bloggers in the blogosphere, I need advice, what do you do that get you readers and real blogger relationships?

10 things I love about freelancing!
Ten Things Tuesday
1. I make my own hours….kids didn’t let me stop today? No biggie I can stay up late and work!
2. Only putting offers on jobs I want, if something isn’t up my alley then I don’t even think about it.
3. I get paid when I turn my work in, which means no waiting for Friday, if I have something to pay for by next week, I just try to take on more work.
4. Being able to up my rates when I feel like I deserve more. It’s nice to give yourself a raise!
5. I set my own deadlines, most of my clients ask me when I can get something done, so I get to choose how quickly I work on something and what dates work best with my hectic family schedule.
6. Need a vacation? Just stop putting in offers. Then let my few long-term clients know and voila! I’m out.
7. I am learning amazing things about everything. Most jobs require research and usually it is on topics I wouldn’t dream of researching on my own. They are interesting and I feel knowledgeable.
8. No bosses or annoying co-workers, yay!
9. A bad day can be fixed with a snuggle from a lil man because he always somewhere in the house.
10. Not having to wear pants. Or get out of my jammies or take off my sparkly tank top from last night’s party.

10 reasons being a poker wife rocks!
Ten Things Tuesday
1. Do you know how he bought my engagement ring?
2. …and the umpteen home improvements we have done over the past few years?
3. Sick days are never do or die at our house, with both of us working at home, no one has to take off work and risk their job because the other is out of commission for a week. ( and you actually have time to recover from your illness making it one week long rather than one month long)
4. Equal housework responsibilities.
5. All our kids have the ability to do extracurricular activities since poker is flexible and both parents can run kids around. (Of course more activities can be done with our kids because of awesome grandparents!)
6. Money is usually available whenever you need it because poker is so fluid.
7. We can take awesome vacations whenever we want (as long as finances are good) because he can work from anywhere!
8. I don’t always have to be the bad guy, because we are both there to take turn disciplining the kids.
9. A “woo hoo” from the basement often means ‘We just made a lot of money!’
10. Never missing another Girl’s Night Out or party because Daddy is always home on time, so I can have my social life!

Glad to be of service…..not!
I WISH! I WISH!
….because instead of working on the work I should be doing that has been putting food on our table….
….all I have been doing is housework and playing with the kids and taking care of everything else!
So I wish for no housework, no cooking, no cleaning…but I don’t really want to be a man.
And just please, please let me get my work work done! : )
Dance Magic, Dance!
My kids were stir crazy tonight, refusing to go outside and hanging on me no matter what I suggested to them.
This was partially due to the fact the girls lefts the Wii remotes out and the bathroom door open this morning, resulting in the Cataclysmic Wii Remote Tragedy of 2011.
This isn’t a picture of our toilet…but….
due to Bubby’s fascination with it, we have found toys, keys, cell phone, tv remotes, toothbrushes, clothing, child-size forks, and now Wii remotes in the toilet bowl. We are just lucky he hasn’t figured out to how to flush or we would be in trouble.
His obsession is why the bathroom door in our house is always shut.
To ease the cabin fever of my little ones, we baked cinnamon coffee cake, the Cinnabon kind and I introduced them to one of my favorite movies.
Labyrinth.
All three were sucked in immediately. Yes I said all three.
Even my 18 month old watched the. entire. movie.
Without moving…..at.all.
I was so stunned at not having three monkeys using me as a jungle gym that I just sat and stared sat them
the. entire. movie.
What little gems from the past have you introduced your kiddos to that they have actually loved as much as you do?
It’s a terrible affliction!
