Ten Things I Love This October

Standard

Ten Things Tuesday

1. Uh duh! HALLOWEEN! One of my favorite holidays! (Read: We are having two ridiculously huge Halloween COSTUME parties) Costumes are the S#$t!

2. Fall is here! Fall is here! Fall is here! My favorite season!!!

3. We get to decorate pumpkins (doing happy dance!) We already glitter spray painted 3 pumpkins and bought the plastic characters to poke into them. We have Vampire Elmo and Cookie Monster on our front step and Yoda is out in the fake graveyard with Mr. Skully. Next up, the real carving.

4. Baking begins…pumpkin pies and pecan pies and pumpkin bread and spice cake! I adore the fall spices!

5. The leaves are turning magnificent colors! Including my lovely little burning bush in the front yard! Grew it from a seed ya’ll!

6. Mr. Skully and all of my other Halloween decorations get to come out and play. We have a graveyard and tons of spooky lights. Massive spiders webs and huge glitter spiders. There also are hanging grim reapers and fake blood sprayed everywhere. We haven’t pulled out the scary stuff yet, I don’t want our Kid’s Halloween party to be too creepy.

7. I can randomly yell ‘Bwains!’ with my BFF and no one looks at us like we are crazy….well they do but it’s the month of Halloween so we pretend they don’t get Zombies!

8. I get to start planning for Christmas shopping (if I am late because mostly I start in July and August…but budget has demanded an October start).

9. The start of all the good tv! The Big Bang Theory is back (FAVORITE!) and my new close second is 2 Broke Girls.

10. I get to make COSTUMES! YAY! I have already finished Bean’s Punk Rock Princess outfit, just working on the crocheted fingerless fishnet-ish gloves. My 1920′s flapper dress is half done, I just need sew up one side and start adding fringe. The Princess is going to be pink Batgirl so I have to get hers started asap! (inspiration for our outfits above)

My DIY Wedding Inspiration Board just for you!

Standard

66 days to my big day and things are in high gear! I thought I would give you all a little sneak peek into the inspiration and and progress on our DIY wedding.

I have shared the dress inspiration but here it is again, the Eleanor Rigby from Peppermint Pretty:

And we received the fabric this week, so far the $1200 dress has cost me $296 for supplies:

Here are the amazing Lauren Jones shoes from Endless.com I was able to purchase with the money we saved on the dress:

And here they are in person next to the dress fabric:

Here are the centerpieces I made.  We have 12 of each size and they cost about $50 to make.  The vases were for DollarTree and the rest of the supplies all came from Michael’s:

I will be filling both with colored water on the day of the wedding and floating candles on top.

These are my bouquets for me and my oldest daughter who is my Maid of Honor. The feathers came from Lamplight Feather and the rest of the supplies came from Michael’s, each bouquet has cost me about $15 to make:

Here are the rings we will be giving the girls during the ceremony, they are from LoveIvy jewelry and are $108 each:

So far cake inspiration is all we have and this was found on Offbeat bride as part of Mariah and Manny’s Rockabilly wedding. Hopefully we will secure a baker soon and have a better idea, we of course want our color scheme and changes to cake to make it ours:

Here is the cake topper we got because Daddy Dearest actually liked one. It was $15 at Wedding Reception Ideas:

Our champagne flutes are from Hand Painted Gifts and were $35, the sell through Amazon.com:

Our cake server and knife were $27 and bought on Amazon.com:

I’m making my daughter dresses too and I will post pictures of those soon.

Let me know what you think!

Ultimate Blog Party 2011

This will be my first year joining the party! When I truly started blogging regularly at the end of last summer I struggled with building a readership. My limited time to network has made it difficult, but now that Daddy Dearest works from home and doesn’t have 2 jobs, I am gonna get on it! LOL

For new readers, here is a little about me:

Hi! I’m Ryan, also known as Ry, Ry-Ry, Shelley, Rockstar(a high school nickname that accompanies my BFF’s nickname Pornstar, silly boys thinking we didn’t know they called us that…oh and my BFF was sweet and innocent and def not in porn, lol) Babe and of course Mommy. I’m coming up on my 30th birthday this summer and I reside in the ever temperamental Midwest USA.

I am a long time unpublished writer and published poet. The whirlwind of college years and babies got me away from writing seriously. I got a ‘grown-up’ job in Corp America where I was used and abused for 8 long years as I tried to be ‘responsible’. Both of my daughters, Gillian (8) and Braeleigh (4), were born during these years of single mom-dom and 60-80 hour work-weeks.

After many complications during my pregnancy with my son Dominik (1), I realized how much I had neglected my daughters. My fiancee and I decided that it was time for me to hang up my ‘working mom’ hat for awhile. It was a good thing we planned for that because my son was born premature leaving me with no choice but to stay home with him.

And thus was born My Misadventures of Stay-At-Mommyhood….so read and enjoy!

Girl Scout Night at Disney On Ice: A Double Daughter Date

And who did we get to see?  Buzz and Woody and all the gang from Toy Story 3!

As you can see the girls had fun! Daddy Dearest and Mommy did too, even if our wallets were considerably lighter leaving the show.  :)
