It’s Hard to be Authentic

Standard

I find that promoting my businesses and my blog become overwhelming. That’s one of the many reasons my blog has suffered.

One of the top recommendations by the business experts is ‘to be authentic’.

Being authentic takes a lot of work. Responding to people so they know I care even when they don’t spend a dime at my businesses is frustrating.

That is time I could be spending with my kids. Who are the reason I stay home. The reason I so desperately try to run home-based web businesses and freelance.

Also, the examples given of being authentic are usually a crock of crap. I can tell the person is working at being authentic. That’s not authentic.

What’s authentic is I am a busy mom trying to help support my family. I want you to buy my products and use my services because it helps me provide for my children. I DO care about people and my customers.

However, spending 15 hours a day promoting my business and engaging with possible customers doesn’t seem to be authentically getting me towards that goal of being with my kids.

So other bloggers in the blogosphere, I need advice, what do you do that get you readers and real blogger relationships?

A Stinking Ball of Crap

Standard

You know when you are all, ‘Help me! I’m drowning in a sea of work!”

And someone is all, “Give me your hand and I will help you out cause I am awesome.”

Then you feel better and stuff, because you can breathe….oh and make your deadline.

Except they send you a stinking ball of crap that is not what you asked for at all….

Thanks….just thanks…..

Oh and I googled ‘breathe’ looking for a lovely artistic pic to make my point hit home and I found this….

WTF Novartis? Creepy!

Glad to be of service…..not!

I WISH! I WISH!

….because instead of working on the work I should be doing that has been putting food on our table….

….all I have been doing is housework and playing with the kids and taking care of everything else!

So I wish for no housework, no cooking, no cleaning…but I don’t really want to be a man.

And just please, please let me get my work work done! : )

Working the Weekend Away

Standard
Right now, as I spend Friday and Saturday hopped up on caffeine, sugar and anxiety, I wish I would have managed my time better this week.  The life of a freelancer is hard.
I did get my ENTIRE basement organized, all the drawers, closets and cabinets in my ENTIRE house organized, entertained my three kids and found several old pictures (like below), then scanned them in while I avoided getting my articles written.

Now should I blame this on my need for time pressure to write well? Or can I just blame it on my kids making me unfocused? LOL
Either way happy weekend, you’ll find me online for the next 48 hours!  : )

Whew!

I will leave you with a funny video and a promise that I will do better! : )

Blank

Standard

I have been sitting here longer than my time for a Stream of Consciousness post and my mind has been absolutely positively blank.

I think my brain is so overwhelmed with responsibilities and schedules and events and drama that it can’t even properly handle a brain dump.

I’m afraid the exhaustion of it all has wiped my mind clean….or it could be the bottle of wine I drank tonight…lol.

Anyhow, I start my new freelancing position this week, paperwork done and faxed in. Hopefully it will go well. Then I can offically say I have had enough freelancing jobs to =be a true writer…journalist,,,oh whatever the hell we are called….

And my time is up, the 5 minutes since my brain started to function that is :)

Fabulous Food Fridays: Crockpot Chicken with Black Beans and Corn

Standard

Ok, this week has been hellacious for me….I have a houseful of children that have RSV including my tiny premie son who can barely breath from all the mucus.  We have now had two trips to the doctor and an emergency room visit under our belts all within the days of a St. Patrick’s Day prep, parade and party for the Girl Scout troop I lead and my first week of the 100 Days til Summer Challenge with the Rants from Mommyland folks.  So it goes without saying, this week has left completely exhausted and overwhelmed.  I did manage to pull the quickest recipe together one night out of stuff I had in the cupboard (which isn’t amounting to much…I really need to get the store!)

Crockpot Chicken with Black Beans and Corn

4 boneless, skinless chicken breasts
1 package of frozen corn
1 can of black beans
1 can of cream of chicken soup
cayenne pepper, to taste
chili powder, to taste
pepper, to taste
salt, to taste
sour cream, to taste
shredded cheese, to taste – we used our fave, Colby Jack

Pour package of corn, can of beans, cream of chicken soup and 3 soup cans full of water into the crockpot and turn to High – 6 hours. Once the soup seems to blend and the mixture starts to warm add chicken breasts (we left them whole, but the way I served them we could have sliced them up also). I then added cayenne pepper, chili powder, salt and pepper to give it a spicy southwestern taste.

6 hours later, we sliced up chicken on our plates, spooned black beans and corn on top and then added shredded cheese and a dollop of sour cream.  It was heavenly and took me about 10 minutes total to make!

Stream of Consciousness Sunday: Hodge-podge and Mish-mash

Standard

I took a weekend off….I unplugged and it was amazing.

I sent the kids off with Dad to do fun stuff and I wandered around the house doing what I wanted.  I avoided dishes and laundry because I do that all the time and focused on things I loved.

I worked on my daughter’s dresses for my wedding, I watched some new movies we bought, I ate Oreos and finished up my bathroom curtains.

My friends and mother-in-law came to visit.  We laughed and gossiped and truly enjoyed each others’ company.

I booked our honeymoon hotel, we decided on New Orleans! I am so excited because I have never been there and neither has Jason.

It was a great weekend, I feel revived and ready to take the week on!

Stream of Consciousness Sunday: Wedding Prep

Standard

Started making my bouquets for the wedding last night.  Cutting up my fake hydrangeas and lavendar….deciding that the website where I found my dress had an awesome idea of putting feathers in their bouquets.  Looking at feathers online with one of my best friends….do we choose ostrich, peacock, guinea?

And why is it that events like this sneak up on you? We have had a date picked out for almost 2 years! 2 years and I havem’t done crap! lol  I rushed to get save the date cards out and i have had ages to do it.

Here is the dress inspriation, but I’m not $1200 happy with it so we are making it, me and my friends, because we are crazy or gluttons for punishment or something….

I;m not that skinny so there will be less under the chest space, I think that would not be pretty at all :)

However, I love the airy look and just happened to stumble upon the Peppermint Pretty website duiring a dress search…..sigh….love it….

Anywho…on to appetizers and music selection and wedding party dresses and oh shit, what the hell will the groom wear? grumble, grumble, grrrr……
